CouchVote — Privacy Policy

CouchVote ("the app", "we") helps you and your groups decide what to watch. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and your choices. The app is operated by Bidyut Changmai ("the developer"). Contact: bidyut.bikash4@gmail.com.

Data we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google (or Apple), we receive your name, email address and profile picture from the identity provider, and store your display name and avatar with a unique account ID.
• Preferences. Your country, streaming services, moods, content type and language choices from onboarding, used to personalise suggestions.
• Activity. Your interactions with titles (yes / no / watched), group memberships, group votes and matches. This is the core of the product — it powers your suggestions and group matching.
• Feedback. Messages you send via "Send feedback", with app version and platform.
• Device data for notifications. A push token and device identifier, so group-match notifications can reach your device (only if you grant the notification permission).
• Usage analytics. Pseudonymous events (e.g. "onboarding completed", "title swiped") tied to your account ID, used to understand and improve the app.
• Crash and error data. Technical diagnostics when something breaks (stack traces, device model, OS version).

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, messages, or any payment information. The app shows no ads and we never sell your data.

Services we use (processors)

• Supabase — database, authentication and hosting of all app data.
• PostHog — usage analytics.
• Sentry — crash and error monitoring.
• OneSignal — push notification delivery.
• TMDB & OMDb — movie/TV metadata. Requests for titles are made by our servers; these services do not receive your identity.

Each processor receives only what it needs to provide its service to us and may not use your data for its own purposes.

How long we keep data

Your data is kept while your account exists. Deleting your account removes it (see below). Aggregated analytics that no longer identify you may be retained.

Delete your account and data

In the app: Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, activity, feedback, group memberships, and any groups you created — immediately and irreversibly.

If you can no longer access the app, email bidyut.bikash4@gmail.com from your account's email address and we will delete your account within 30 days.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Access in the app is enforced per-user with row-level security: your data is visible only to you, and group data only to that group's members.

Children

CouchVote is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Most of these are available directly in the app; for anything else, contact us at the email above.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and note the new effective date.
